EPA Issues Mancozeb Proposed Interim Registration Review Decision (PID)

NPC is concerned with the limitations and applicability of the data being used by the Agency

This week EPA released their Proposed Interim Registration Review Decision for Mancozeb, which includes a proposed cancelation of on-farm seed treatment of potatoes with all formulations along with other label changes to address spray drift and soil erosion/surface water runoff risks. EPA has acknowledged that its current draft risk assessment considering use on seed potatoes potentially could be significantly refined with additional data.

NPC is also concerned with the limitations and applicability of the data being used by the Agency and is working to ensure that the information and assumptions ultimately reflect current real, on-farm scenarios. In June, the Board of Directors adopted a recommendation to encourage growers to voluntarily participate in the Mancozeb Potato Seed Piece Treatment Study being conducted by the Mancozeb Task Force. If the study is successful, it would provide better more reliable data for the Agency’s risk assessment.

Additional information on how growers can participate in the Mancozeb Potato See Piece Treatment Study will be made available in the near future.
